Genetic Counselling


Application Fee: $100 CDN (non-refundable)

All applicants must meet the minimum admission requirements of the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

An acceptable English Language Proficiency test score is required, if applicable.

For initial assessment purposes only, copies of unofficial transcripts (uploaded to your application) are acceptable and preferred. Transcripts are required from each institution for the entire academic history, whether or not degree has been awarded, including institutions attended on an exchange. If the English copy is a translation, please include the original language as well.

Degree Certificates – All international transcripts must be accompanied by degree certificates that indicate that the degree has been awarded.

Master of Science

Program requirements include, for a total of 30 credit hours over 2 years:

  • A minimum of 23 credit hours of coursework at the 7000 level
  • Participation in the clinical academic half day (held weekly)
  • Research Thesis

Application Requirements

  • Four-year Bachelor's degree that should include undergraduate courses in principles of genetics, cell biology, human genetics, and molecular biology
  • At least one course in psychology
  • Minimum 3.7 GPA (on a 4.5 scale) or equivalent in the most recent 60 credit hours of university study
  • Written Statement of Purpose (no more than 2 pages outlining relevant experience and reason for pursuing Genetic Counselling)
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Registration in the Genetic Admission Counseling Match
  • Letters of Recommendation: 3
