A brief summary of the programs offered by the IMG Program are as follows:
Orientation
- 4 week duration offered yearly (June)
- designed to facilitate integration into the Canadian Healthcare System
- compulsory for IMGs accepted into a residency, training, or assessment program in Manitoba
Practice Ready Assessment - Family Practice (PRA MB-FP) (formerly the International Medical Graduate Assessment for Conditional Licensure (IMGACL))
- a three-month assessment for eligible family medicine physicians who are practice ready
- an accelerated route to licensure as a family physician in rural Manitoba
- successful candidates begin practicing independently after the assessment
Medical Licensure Program for International Medical Graduates (MLPIMG)
- a one-year training program for eligible family medicine physicians who either require or seek additional training
- enhances IMGs’ previous training
- successful candidates practice family medicine independently in rural Manitoba
Practice Ready Assessment - Specialty Practice (PRA MB-SP) (formerly the Non-Registered Specialist Assessment Program (NRSAP))
- an assessment program for eligible Specialist Physicians
- assessment duration varies by the area of specialty (3-12 months)
- successful candidates will begin independent practice after the assessment in rural Manitoba
International Medical Graduate Mentorship and Clinical Enhancement (IMGMCE)
- a mandatory mentorship for physicians who have successfully completed the PRA MB-FP, MLPIMG or PRA MB-SP
- an on-site in-practice formative mentorship program
- provides foundation for longitudinal Continuing Medical Education (CME)
