Pain in the lower back or low back pain is a common concern, affecting up to 90% of people at some point in their lifetime. Up to 50% will have more than one episode. Low back pain is not a specific disease, rather it is a symptom that may occur from a variety of different processes. We’ll go back in time and look at the natural history of walking upright, look at today’s medical and surgical treatments and tomorrow’s promising developments.
Dangers lurking in the kitchen? The session will explore the dangers in the food chain and interventions that ensure safety of our food supply. How about dangers on your plate? It’s estimated that as many as 1.2 million Canadians may be affected by food allergies and these numbers are increasing, especially among children. The second topic of the evening will help you understand and manage the risks associated with food allergens. Topic 1: Ensuring food safety Topic 2: Food allergies More than 4,000 Canadians are waiting for an organ transplant to save their lives. Last year, only 1,803 transplants were performed. Many patients remain on waiting lists – and time is ticking. For those who receive an organ, it is the start of another journey. Topic 2: Kidney transplants
