A valid piece of photo ID such as a driver’s license or passport is required to purchase a membership or day pass.
A Membership Registration Form must be completed by all customers purchasing a membership or day pass. You can also print this form and bring it with you when you come to purchase your membership.
In order to access the facilities, you must either be a member or purchase a day pass. All members are issued a membership ID card at registration. All members must produce this ID card each and every time they access the facilities. Student and staff members are required to use their University of Manitoba issued ID card.
In the event you are unable to produce your membership ID card, you will be required to consult our customer service desk to gain access and the card will be deactivated to ensure card sharing does not occur. The member will need to bring their ID card to the customer service desk to have it reactivated. Members who cannot produce their ID card when accessing the facility are granted the following access opportunities:
After reaching the maximum number of opportunities to gain access without your card, members have 3 choices;
All members are expected to follow all posted facility etiquette signs for all Faculty of Kinesiology sport and recreation facilities. Violation of sport and recreation facility etiquette signs may lead to a suspension and/or revocation of membership privileges. Membership card loaning or sharing is strictly prohibited for the following reasons:
To ensure that we can uphold this standard of safety and security for all of our members it is important that you are aware of the following information:
Members are not permitted to leave items such as, but not limited to, bags, clothing, and shoes on the 300/400 levels of the Active Living Centre. Bags and other contents left on the fitness floor will be removed and stored in a secure room. To retrieve removed contents members must speak to a Recreation Services fitness attendant. If bags and other contents are left on the fitness floor more than two times, a hold will be placed on the members account and will not be removed until a $2 administrative fee is paid. Special arrangements may be made for members with medical conditions that require treatment nearby at all times. Please contact the Membership Coordinator to make any special arrangements.
Locker and towel service is treated as a form of membership and as such our membership refund policy applies. Please read our policy on Membership Refunds.
The University of Manitoba assumes no responsibility for lost or stolen items or damage to personal property and strongly recommends that you do not store valuables in your locker.
Recreation Services reserves the right to issue the member a new member card if the following conditions apply:
Where the card has been lost or stolen, Recreation Services will issue the primary card holder a new membership card at a cost to the member of $20. Where the card is no longer functional due to normal wear and tear, Recreation Services will issue the holder a new card at no charge.
Members have the option to upgrade a membership within 30 days of the original membership purchase and pay only the difference. Upgrade purchase must take place within 30 days of the original membership purchase. No exceptions. Members have the option to upgrade a 1 week trial within the 7 days of the original one week trial purchase and pay only the difference. Offer does not apply to 1 month trial purchases.
A member may put his/her membership on a medical freeze, at no charge, with a letter from a physician. To qualify, the medical letter must be presented within 30 days of the patient assessment.
Members who have a 12 month term membership may place a hold for 30, 60, or 90 sequential days for a non-refundable fee of $15. A member may freeze his/her term twice every 12 months for a maximum 3 months combined. Notification for freezing a membership can be given up to the day the member would like their hold to begin. A membership freeze may not be back-dated. Payments must be processed at the time of request. Freeze dates may not be adjusted once a request has been made. One membership freeze per application form. Dependent memberships may be frozen at no additional cost.
Partner memberships can only be purchased through an existing member.
Dependent memberships can only be purchased through an existing member and must expire simultaneously with the primary member.
Dependent memberships are available to those children (ages 6 to 14) years of age and under, whose parent / guardian is a member and accompanies the dependent at all times.
As per the member category, all dependent members may access the facilities only when accompanied by the primary membership holder. If a dependent member is found to have accessed the facilities without the direct supervision of the primary membership holder, both the dependent and primary member may be subject to a suspension of membership privileges.
Payroll Deduction for membership is available to University of Manitoba employees who are permanent, permanent part-time, grant-funded or reduced appointment staff. Full-time CancerCare and Diagnostic Services of Manitoba employees are also eligible for payroll deduction. Part-time or casual staff are not eligible.
All approved refunds will be pro-rated minus a $15 + GST admin fee.
Refunds on staff memberships will be provided when the employee displays a Record of Employment indicating that they are no longer employed by the U of M or a valid medical certificate is presented.
UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA EMPLOYEE PAYROLL DEDUCTION REFUND POLICY
Medical: Once a valid medical certificate from a physician is presented, payroll deductions and membership will be inactivated. No refunds will be issued.
No longer Employed: When a staff member leaves employment, the University of Manitoba will deduct the outstanding amount owing for membership fees from payroll entitlements. Once a Record of Employment from the U of M is presented the employee will be eligible for a pro-rated refund. A $15 + GST administration fee will apply.
Refunds on all other memberships and membership related services will be provided only when a valid medical certificate is presented. A $15 + GST administration fee will apply.
Please note that personal training is prohibited (in Frank Kennedy, Max Bell, IGAC and Joe Doupe) by any individual(s) not employed as a Recreation Services Certified Personal Trainer.
The lifestyle rate is a discounted rate for students’ first year after graduation. To qualify, students must register in their last term prior to the expiration of their current membership pass. This membership category is eligible for one year, after which, the recent graduate will qualify for the alumni rate.
The University of Manitoba endeavors to be a safe campus and follows the Respectful Work and Learning Environment and Sexual
Assault Policy. Any acts of sexual assault and/or sexual harassment within the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management sport and recreation facilities is strictly prohibited and may lead to a lifetime ban.
All declined payments, including cheques and credit card payments, will be subject to a declined payment fee of $30.00 + GST.
Unless you have prior approval, videos and/or photos while inside any sport and recreation facilities are strictly prohibited and a violation of this rule may result in the suspension and/or revocation of membership privileges. Click HERE for more information on this policy.
