Peter Kulchyski is a full professor in Native Studies at the University of Manitoba. He was born and raised in Bissett, MB, and although he is non-Native he attended a government run residential school, Frontier Collegiate, in Cranberry Portage, MB. He studied politics at the University of Winnipeg and York University in Toronto, and has taught at U Saskatchewan, Trent and since 2000 Manitoba (all Native Studies). He has published widely on Aboriginal history, culture, politics and law including Like the Sound of a Drum: Aboriginal Cultural Politics in Denendeh and Nunavut and Aboriginal Rights Are Not Human Rights. He is currently finishing a manuscript on research with mountain Dene in the NWT, and has been active around the impacts of hydro development on Indigenous communities in northern Manitoba.
