Development of rapid fluorescent screening techniques to detect antiseptic and disinfectant tolerant bacterial phenotypes
Characterization of bacterial membrane proteins (porins and efflux pumps) and lipids using various biophysical (fluorescence, nanoparticle tracking, and mass spectrometry (MS)), biochemical (polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, liquid chromatography (LC) and thin-layer chromatography (TLC)), and genetic (recombinant DNA engineering, gene deletion techniques, and whole genome sequencing) techniques
Characterization of bacterial efflux pump activity to identify biologically and clinically relevant substrates. Identify efflux pump-lipid influences on functionality by combining high throughput genetic/phenotypic screening approaches with LC-MS and TLC analyses
Bioinformatics analyses of lipid and membrane protein interactions using evolutionary analysis methods
Metagenomic analysis of fecal microbiomes associated with antimicrobial exposure and antimicrobial-resistant species
