Indigenous Leadership Report

Indigenous senior leadership report released

In February 2019, Provost and Vice-President (Academic) Janice Ristock established a committee, chaired by Dr. Catherine Cook, Vice-Dean Indigenous, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, to provide recommendations on the ideal role and mandate of Indigenous senior leadership, their required supports and the associated reporting structures.

The committee, which also included an Elder, Indigenous faculty, staff, students, and senior academic leadership, has concluded its work and presented its report, which has been accepted by President David Barnard.

The final report is available online.

The entire University of Manitoba senior leadership team wish to thank the review committee and all those who participated in the consultations that contributed to the development of the report.

Indigenous leadership consultations

An advisory committee was established to consider the current role and mandate of the Vice-Provost (Indigenous Engagement) at the University of Manitoba. The committee also considered:

  • associated reporting structures and units
  • feedback on what Indigenous leadership should look like, through consultation with the university community and specific stakeholder groups
  • the supports required to fulfill the mandate of Indigenous leadership and the University of Manitoba’s commitment to Indigenous achievement

On this page, you can learn more about the advisory committee, the opportunities to provide feedback that took place, as well as other important information.
