Mature Advisory Committee (MAC)

Who can join?

Students, part time or full time who are 21 years of age or older are welcome to join. This group provides an opportunity to meet others on campus who have taken a break from their studies and are now returning to school.

We have members from nearly every faculty, some just starting to study and others getting close to graduation. Often we have visiting students who wish to make connections during their short time at the university. Many of our members are active in other campus organizations: UMMSA (University of Manitoba Mature Student Association); International Student Association; PACT (Promoting Aboriginal Community together) various UMSU student groups; faculty student councils, etc.

The goal of this committee is:

  • To promote Adult Learning at the University of Manitoba
  • Ease transition
  • Build a community of older than average students on campus
  • Advise University 1 of first year services and supports needed
How to get involved:

Joining is easy. Just email us at with your name and student number and we will add you to our email list serve. We meet once a month for two hours. We will email you the schedule for the year (in September for Fall Term and in January for Winter Term) and then a reminder email each month.

Attendance is flexible, some students never miss a meeting and others join in when they can.

Another opportunity for students is to join the UMSU group UMMSA (University of Manitoba Mature Student Association). For more information on this group please email:
