Social Insurance Numbers
All employees are required to hold a social insurance number (SIN). Applications for a SIN are to be made in person and if you do not request a "rush" this may take four to six weeks. If you are scheduled to begin work, you must request a "rush" and your SIN can be provided to you within 48 hours. The following original documents must be presented: passport, employment authorization and letter of offer. There is no fee requirement. Your Social Insurance Number is only valid for the period of your temporary work permit. Extension of your temporary work permit requires you to reapply for an extension of SIN through Human Resources Development Canada as listed below.

Manitoba Health Care Coverage
Personal Health Care Coverage is available to you and your family members provided that you have a minimal 12 month work permit authorization. Manitoba Health must be provided with copies of any work permit extensions thereafter otherwise your health coverage will not be renewed. Application can be made in person at 100-300 Carlton Street. You will need to provide proof of identification, and employment and visitor authorizations for yourself and all family members. Registration is immediate provided that all documents are available. Manitoba Health Care Coverge is only valid for the period of your temporary work permit. Extension of your temporary work permit requires you to provide Manitoba Health with a copy of any subsequent temporary work permits.
