University 1 is proud to recognize the achievements of the Honour List students from the most recently completed academic year.

Leaving University 1

All University 1 students will eventually move into another faculty. Students typically leave U1 after their first or second year of university studies, depending on how many credit hours they've completed and what faculty they are targeting.

U1 students may be eligible to transit (move) to the Faculty of Arts or Faculty of Science if they have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours after the Winter term.

Transit is available as of mid-June in Aurora, before students register for Fall and Winter courses.

To transit from University 1:

  1. Locate and select the “Transit from University 1” card.

  2. Complete the online form.

  3. Choose either the Faculty of Arts or the Faculty of Science and submit your request.

  4. You will receive a confirmation email once your request has been submitted.

If you have fewer than 24 credit hours, you will continue in University 1 for an additional year.

If you have 24-27 credit hours you may:
• continue in University 1,
• transit to the Faculty of Arts,
• transit to the Faculty of Science, or
apply to your target faculty, if you are eligible.

If you have 30 credit hours or more you cannot continue University 1. You must:
• transit to the Faculty of Arts,
• transit to the Faculty of Science, or
apply to your target faculty, if you are eligible.

Deferred exam requests

U1 students

A deferred exam may be granted when extraordinary circumstances prevent you from writing a scheduled final exam. Review the Registrar’s Office Final Exam Conflicts and Deferrals page to confirm eligibility.

How to apply for a deferred exam:

You must complete the following three steps within 48 hours of the missed exam:

  1. Complete the Deferred Exam Application Form.

  2. Gather supporting documentation that verifies the reason for missing the exam (e.g., medical note, obituary).

If you cannot obtain official documentation, a self‑declaration form may be used only once for a deferred exam. Future deferred exam requests will require detailed medical or compassionate documentation.

Self‑declaration forms are not accepted for re‑deferrals.

  3. Submit your application (with supporting documentation attached) to fycentre@umanitoba.ca AND call 204‑474‑6209 during business hours to speak with a University 1 Academic Advisor to have your application reviewed.

If you have missed an exam outside of regular business hours, contact us as soon as possible the next business day.
