Reading Buddies is a unique service-learning program that is proudly offered by Student Life in partnership with Winnipeg School Division. This program gives you the opportunity to support learning and literacy in Winnipeg School Division. During your participation in the program, you will also be led through training and reflection sessions that encourage critical thinking and the development of intercultural competence.
Reading Buddies will run from October to April. The time commitment is approximately 6 hours per month: one hour/week in a school, and two hours/month for group meetings.
Participants are eligible for recognition on their Co-Curricular Record (CCR).
*Applicants should apply immediately for their Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (ePIC with VSS, commonly known as a Criminal Record Check)
ePIC Online Application
The ePIC with VSS can be obtained online through Winnipeg Police Services through this link. Please read the instructions carefully, as some students may need to apply in-person or with the RCMP. For example, students who live outside of the city (e.g., West St. Paul, Bird's Hill, Headingley), will need to apply through their local RCMP office.
Make sure to request Vulnerable Sector Search at the time of your application. Two pieces of identification are required for requesting an ePIC with VSS. One of these must be a government-issued photo ID, such as a passport, driver’s license, resident card, status card, Manitoba ID card, etc. The ePIC with VSS will be processed online, and then you can share the results with University of Manitoba Service-Learning.
**The cost of the online application is $48.50, which must be paid by Visa, Mastercard or American Express. Winnipeg School Division will reimburse students for their ePIC with VSS when they present their receipt.
