Welcome Day 2019
New Student Orientation

Welcome Day - September 3, 2019

Welcome Day is one of the largest events on campus, involving over 5,000 students, staff, and volunteers. This event is for new undergraduate Fort Garry campus students starting classes in September. This event will introduce you to campus, provide you with important academic information, and allow you to meet other new students, some upper year students, and have some fun as well! We’ve got a lot of activities planned, so make sure you join us on September 3.

Update: August 30 - Welcome Day confirmation emails have been sent.  Please check your email (the one you used to apply to the U of M) for all the details.

Registration for Welcome Day 2019 is closed, but we don’t want anyone to miss out on the info and activities planned for Tuesday, September 3rd. If you did not register for Welcome Day, then please come to campus for 8:30 am - you can come to the session in room 408 in the Tier Building. It starts at 9:00 am and runs until 10:30 am. Free bbq lunch will be served at noon.

Looking forward to seeing you for Welcome Day on September 3!

Some common questions:

Do I need to complete UM Essentials, and attend the in-person Welcome Day?

Yes! The online series, and the in-person sessions and events, are designed to complement each other, not replace each other. Both have important information, tips and resources to start you off with success.

I attended What's Next? and Making the Grade!. Do I need to attend Welcome Day?

Yes! What's Next? is offered to new incoming students each year in June. During the event, guests are presented with information about what students can do to prepare for registering for classes, and what to expect from their university experience in general.

Making the Grade! is offered in July and is designed to help prepare students for September and feel more confident about coming on campus and starting classes.

Once fall is here, there is a lot of additional information you need to know once you're registered for classes! You will also learn information that is important to your academic career now that you're starting classes. You may even see some familiar faces from What's Next? and Making the Grade! to reconnect with!

My faculty has contacted me about a separate Orientation event, how do I get more information about that?

If you are joining the Faculty of Science, School of Art, Asper School of Business, Interdisciplinary Health Program or Faculty of Engineering, you will be participating in a separate Orientation with your faculty. Contact your faculties directly if you have any questions.

What is the All About U Expo?

The All About U Expo happens during Welcome Day, and allows new students to interact with many on-campus departments and services, as well as off-campus partners, that are here to help you during your academic career. There are loads of free giveaways and information to pick-up, as well as interactive activities to get to know your new on-campus community better. The Expo is a fantastic event to see what we have to offer!
