Overview of Programs
A brief summary of the programs offered by the IMG Program are as follows: 

Orientation

  • 4 week duration offered yearly (June)
  • designed to facilitate integration into the Canadian Healthcare System
  • compulsory for IMGs accepted into a residency, training, or assessment program in Manitoba

Practice Ready Assessment - Family Practice (PRA-FP)      (formerly the International Medical Graduate Assessment for Conditional Licensure (IMGACL))

  • a three-month assessment for eligible family medicine physicians who are practice ready 
  • an accelerated route to licensure as a family physician in rural Manitoba
  • successful candidates begin practicing independently after the assessment

Medical Licensure Program for International Medical Graduates (MLPIMG)

  • a one-year training program for eligible family medicine physicians who either require or seek additional training
  • enhances IMGs’ previous training
  • successful candidates practice family medicine independently in rural Manitoba

Practice Ready Assessment - Specialty Practice (PRA-SP)       (formerly the Non-Registered Specialist Assessment Program (NRSAP))

  • an assessment program for eligible Specialist Physicians
  • assessment duration varies by the area of specialty (3-12 months)
  • successful candidates will begin independent practice after the assessment in rural Manitoba

 International Medical Graduate Mentorship and Clinical Enhancement (IMGMCE)

  • a mandatory mentorship for physicians who have successfully completed the PRA-FP, MLPIMG or PRA-SP
  • an on-site in-practice formative mentorship program
  • provides foundation for longitudinal Continuing Medical Education (CME)
