University Partners with Team Cormorant

In July, 1997, a letter of intent was signed between the University of Manitoba and Team Cormorant, a consortium that includes 40 leading aerospace companies from across Canada.

Team Cormorant's proposal was accepted to supply search and rescue helicopters to the Canadian government and is planning to include a research and education component in its industrial development plan. Team Cormorant's successful bid will fulfill the Canadian government's requirement for 15 new search and rescue helicopters, and the university will receive consortium funding for research, technological expertise, and access to the facilities of consortium members for university researchers and graduate students. This commitment by the consortium will result in a major expansion of aerospace education and research at the U of M, which already includes an undergraduate option in aerospace engineering and a research chair in aerospace materials.
