Homestay Program


The Homestay Program is a part of the English Language Centre (ELC) at the University of Manitoba.

The Homestay Program provides accommodation to any international student 17 years of age or older who is registered to attend a University of Manitoba undergraduate or graduate program, the English Language Centre’s Intensive Academic English Program, or the International College of Manitoba. Visiting Scholars, Professors, Researchers and Trainees can also take part.

International students are given an opportunity to live in a Canadian home while studying at the University of Manitoba, and to benefit from the cultural and linguistic immersion offered by the Homestay experience.

Homes in the Program:

  • are safe and affordable
  • cost only $700 per month + Application and Administration fees
  • include all essentials: three meals a day, wireless internet, private room, bed, bedding, dresser, desk, lamp and bath towels
  • are located 15-35 minutes by bus from the university campus
  • provide opportunities to practice English daily
  • provide opportunities to explore Canadian culture  and take part in local activities

Homestay Support

Full time Homestay staff are available on campus to provide on-going support and assistance.
