Who can access the Charge Ahead program?

All students (undergraduate and graduate) can access Charge Ahead programming, including students from UM degree programs, ELC, and ICM.

One-to-one consultations

Students can book one-to-one consultations with Charge Ahead mentors. Mentors are upper-years undergraduate or graduate students. They can serve as a listening ear and can help you to plan the next steps in your academic journey. A Charge Ahead mentor can help you to:

  • Identify successes and challenges in your academic journey
  • Develop an action plan for academic and personal success
  • Get connected with campus resources and supports

Workshops

Workshops are available free of charge to all students. Workshops focus on general skill development in positive psychology, resilience, and study skills. Workshops are led by Charge Ahead mentors. They can be attended as a series or registered for individually. They are a great compliment to the Academic Success Workshops.

Next series of workshops will be delivered in Fall 2024.

  • Here’s what students have said about their experiences participating in Charge Ahead!

“In a large environment like the U of M, the Charge Ahead Program offers the opportunity to relate, find help where necessary and learn a few tricks about surviving through the semester. You can tell the mentors are genuinely there for you.”

“[Charge Ahead] can help students who are struggling academically to stay on track and achieve their academic goals. Additionally, the program can provide students with a sense of community and connection, which can be helpful in navigating the challenges of college life.”

[Charge Ahead mentors] can offer solutions to issues you are having. They provide you with resources around campus that you never knew existed.

“It’s been a while since I was in university and I felt overwhelmed during my earlier terms. I knew I needed help but was not sure where to start. Speaking with the tutor helped me organize my schedule and stick with it. It took some time but having someone to speak with and give me reminders helped me create a study schedule that works for me and overcome procrastination.”
