    Advanced Climbing Skills

    (Ages 10-15)

    Advanced Climbing Skills is designed to help climbers with experience on the wall continue to develop their skills. The focus of this program will be on intermediate to advanced techniques while teaching you what it takes to train for a competition. Participants will be encouraged to set long-term goals for themselves and be taught strategies for achieving their goals.

    All members of the climbing team will receive 10 passes for open climb time. Parental supervision is required during open climb times.

    Prerequisite: Wall Climbing - Fundamentals/Skills Advancement OR equivalent.

    Artists’ Studio

    (Ages 12-14)

    Work in the studio to create a variety of art projects. At the end of the week, you’ll provide your peers with insight into your own artistic process in the form of a critique. Smocks may not be available so please bring a large shirt to protect your clothes.

    Becoming a Mini U Leader

    (Ages 13-16)

    Develop your skills in the areas of responsibility, behaviour management and goal setting and get a powerful glimpse into what it takes to be a leader on the Mini U team. Receive hands-on training through an in-depth orientation that includes learning behaviour management techniques, customer service, creating games for kids and teamwork. During the first week, our leaders will prepare you to lead at Mini U. During the second week, you’ll work alongside a Mini U mentor and assist leading one of our summer camps. The program will consist of two levels. Each level will unlock new responsibilities and opportunities. After a program level has been completed, you will have the chance to volunteer at our programs!

    Coding with Minecraft and Roblox

    (Ages 12-14)

    Learn about the world of coding with the wildly popular Minecraft and Roblox games. You will use the code editor Code Kingdoms to create your own games and projects in real Java and Lua code. Depending on your comfort level, you will be able to work in either drag and drop blocks or text code. New and experienced players are welcome.

    Create an App

    (Ages 12-14)

    Interested in app design? Get to know the principles of app game design while transforming your creative ideas into interactive video games. Learn all about mobile game creation using specialized software like Stencyl. You do not require a smartphone to enrol in this camp; games will be written and run with stand-alone software. Participants who want to try running their games on a smartphone are welcome to bring their own personal iPhone or Android device, which should be running the most up-to-date operating system. Mini U Programs is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen equipment. Previous experience with programming or programming software is not required.

    Entrepreneurship

    (Ages 12-14)

    Have you ever wondered how other kids your age are able to create their own business? Join us and learn what it takes to become an entrepreneur. Get hands-on training in finance, investing, marketing, human resources, and customer service. Learn how to pitch an idea just like the Dragons! Visit Winnipeg's very own Innovation Alley where young entrepreneurs design and manufacture their own inventions. Participants will be given a take-home item to commemorate their visit.

    Film Making

    (Ages 12-14)

    Join us live on the red carpet this summer at the U of M in our totally redesigned filmmaking workshop. Filmmaking crews will work together with an experienced filmmaker to write a script, storyboard, location scout and shoot an original short film in eye-catching HD. Participants will use HD cameras, tripods and boom microphones during production. Once complete, crews will edit their movie on iMovie or Final Cut Pro X. Film crews will also create an authentic movie trailer to advertise their film. Participants will enjoy a red carpet film festival on Friday afternoon will be able to view and download their film from our online portal.

    Flag Football/Floor Hockey Combo

    (Ages 12-14)

    Coached by experienced football and hockey players, this camp covers the basic movements of football and hockey without the physical contact. Along with some behind-the-scenes access at Investors Group Field, you’ll hone your skills in running, throwing, catching, shooting, scoring and positioning through drills and scrimmages throughout the week.

    Girlzone: Educate, Empower, Express

    Golf

    (Ages 12-14)

    This summer, learn from a certified PGA golf professional! Learn the basics of the game on the golf course and the driving range while having fun along the way. Throughout the week receive instruction at St. Vital Golf Centre and then put your skills to work at Maplewood Golf Course. Receive a video analysis and print out of your swing to help maximize your shots off the tee box, your fairway shots and your chipping and putting.

    Participants must supply their own set of clubs and golf balls.

    (Ages 9-14)

    You will acquire basic and/or advanced judo techniques (throws and mat work) according to your placement in the class.  Physical fitness, respectful behaviour, safety and enjoyment of the sport of judo are top priorities.  Program advisor is Moe Oye, eighth degree black belt and Level 4 certified coach.

    Karate

    (Ages 7-12)

    Take part in a program built on a philosophy of respect for yourself and others. Karate training emphasizes proper manners, respectable behaviour and self-confidecnse. This introductory program will focus on learning the fundamentals like kicking, stiking, blocking and self-defense movements. 

    Participants are required to wear a Karate uniform (gi) which can be purchased after the first class.

    (Ages 12-14)

    Learn to become a leader in the kitchen! Better understand kitchen safety, techniques for proper food handling, how to follow a recipe and more! Transform healthy ingredients into delicious snacks, baked goods and savoury meals. Participants will be assembling a recipe book that can be taken home at the end of the week. Our menu for the week will be set prior to your first day of camp. All recipes prepared will be nut-free. Families must inform us of any food allergies or dietary restrictions a minimum of 10 days prior to your first day in the kitchen. We may not be able to accommodate all requests.

    Explore and experience La Barriere Park, Kings Park and Birds Hill Provincial Park! Learn about wilderness survival and orienteering. Try geocaching as well as wall climbing at the U of M Active Living Centre, all while learning leadership skills involving teamwork, communication and responsibility. Discover how fulfilling it is to be a leader in the great outdoors!

    Racquetballers 2

    (Age 12-15)

    This program is offered in cooperation with Racquetball Manitoba. A qualified leader will cover the basic grip, stroke, court positioning and rules. Time will also be spent preparing for tournament play.

    Participants will receive a membership to Racquetball Manitoba.

    Discover your passion for design in this week-long camp. Participate in 3D printing and laser cutting firsthand in the Architecture FABLab. Explore design through generative techniques while working collaboratively in small teams. You will be given creative freedom when working on your kit-based project throughout the week. Projects will be based on multiple variations of design-assemblies.

    Tackle a 1,500-square-foot climbing facility located in the Active Living Centre. It’s 50 feet long and 40 feet high! Learn safety procedures, knot-tying techniques, bouldering and climbing communication in a fun and safe indoor environment.

    Mini U Programs offers a great day of activities on a variety of school inservice days. 

    Bring your children here and let them spend the day doing archery, racquetball and more! Programs run 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with drop-off from 7:45 a.m. to 9 a.m. and pick-up from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. NEW! Pick up/Drop off for Inservice Days will be in the James Daly (Max Bell) Fieldhouse. Let the summer fun continue! 

    Prices for the day are $33 per child. Registration is available online or you can also fax them to 474-7503 (attention: Drew) or dropped off in person at the Active Living Centre front desk.
