Applying for Admission

Thank you for your interest in applying to a graduate program at the University of Manitoba.  Before applying, you are strongly encouraged to contact the Department to which you would like to apply.  Each program and unit will have different admission deadlines and document requirements that you will need to meet.  If you have not yet contacted the Department, a listing of all our programs and their contacts can be found here.

Once you have contacted the Department and are ready to apply, you have two options.  You can either apply online or, if you do not have access to a dedicated internet connection, you can apply by completing and submitting a paper application form.

Application Fee

Each application must be accompanied by a $100 application fee (subject to change).  Applications will not be processed unless accompanied by the correct fee, in Canadian or equivalent US funds.  The application fee is non-refundable and not credited against tuition.  Please do not send cash in the mail.

If applying online, you have the option to pay your application fee by credit card (Mastercard or VISA), or by submitting an international money order, bank draft or cheque.

If applying by paper, you have the option to pay your application fee by submitting an international money order, bank draft or cheque with your application form.  Payment by credit card is not available at this time.

The money order, bank draft or cheque should be made payable to "The University of Manitoba" and should be MICR encoded with the cheque number, transit number (usually 8 digits) and account number.  MICR encoding is the set of preprinted numbers on the bottom left-hand side of the money order, bank draft or cheque.  If the fee is not MICR encoded, the transit number, the account number and the complete bank address must be indicated on the payment.

If the application fee is not acceptable, it will be returned to the applicant and a new fee will be requested.

Documentation

Each application must be accompanied by the required supporting documentation.

Official transcripts and reference letters in support of an application must be submitted by hard copy, either accompanying your application package or forwarded separately by the appropriate authority. If forwarded separately, please ensure that your complete name and, if possible, birth date are noted on the documents so that they are matched to your file in a timely manner.

Other supporting documents (not including transcripts or reference letters) may be e-mailed electronically to graduate_admissions@umanitoba.ca. This includes CVs / Resumes, Statements of Intent, Samples of Writing, etc. If possible, please forward these documents as PDF files. The e-mail must include your complete name, birth date and if applicable, U of M reference number, so that the documents are matched to your file in a timely manner. If sending by e-mail is not an option, you may also send these by hard copy with the remainder of your supporting documents.

All hard copies of documents should be submitted to the Faculty of Graduate Studies at the following address:
