This is the junior classification of cashier and incumbents at this level are responsible for the receipt of funds for goods and services and the recording of these transactions. Supervision is maintained during the initial training period after which the incumbent works independently receiving only general supervision. Duties can include providing assistance in the introductory training of new employees hired to positions at this level.


  • Provides front-line cashiering service, including providing general information and assistance to customers.
  • Receives and counts change float prior to start of daily transactions. Requests additional change as required.
  • Using a computerized point-of-sale system, processes cash, credit card and debit card transactions from customers for goods and services. Makes change.
  • Summarizes balance of fund and make up change float at the end of shift.
  • Deposits cash float and records.
  • Keeps work area clean and stocked with supplies and merchandise.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.


The minimum qualifications necessary for acceptable (satisfactory) job performance are:

Level of Formal Education

  • High school completion with job-related options.
  • Customer service training preferred.


  • One year of customer service experience.
  • Cashiering experience preferred.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills and Abilities

  • Must be bondable.
  • Ability to relate well with customers.

Physical Requirements

Capable of performing the duties as assigned, including a reasonable degree of manual dexterity.
