Agriculture and food related industries are growing in world importance and with a shortage of graduates in these professions, now is a great time for young people to consider a career in agricultural and food sciences.
Graduates of Manitoba’s diploma and degree programs have a tremendous choice of careers in areas like medicinal food research, international trade, product development, food safety, biotechnology, environmental science, food production, marketing, and sales. The Centennial Entrance Scholarships are now available to help provide the financial support you may need to pursue a future in agriculture.
Alumni, faculty, agricultural industry and friends of the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and the Province of Manitoba, through the department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives, have each contributed $150,000 for an endowed scholarship. This was in honour of the 100th Anniversary of the faculty which was originally established in 1906 as the Manitoba Agricultural College.
In 2017, up to 11 Agricultural and Food Sciences Centennial Entrance Scholarships will be awarded to Manitoba high school students who plan to enter the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences at the University of Manitoba. Eligible students may enter either the two-year Diploma in Agriculture program or the four-year Bachelor of Science degree program. Students entering the degree program either through Direct Entry (right out of high school) or through Advanced Entry (after completion of University 1) must register for a specific set of courses in their first year as determined by the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and as outlined in the University First Year Planning Guide.
The $2000 scholarships will be used to pay tuition in the first year of the diploma program. For students entering the degree program through Direct Entry, the funds will be applied to tuition in the first year. For students entering through Advanced Entry, the funds will be held until the student exits University 1 and registers in the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences in their second year of study.
