Physical Plant recently achieved the Certification of Recognition (COR) awarded by the Construction Safety Association of Manitoba. The COR certification is a nationally recognized safety program and the University of Manitoba’s Physical Plant is the first post-secondary institute in Canada to achieve this accreditation.

March 2011 Update
The Physical Plant Department is responsible for the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of the Fort Garry and Bannatyne Campuses, Glenlea Research Station, Delta Marsh and Star Lake Field Stations, and the President’s residence. The Fort Garry and Bannatyne Campuses contain more than 100 buildings with a total area in excess of 6.38 million gross square feet. The Fort Garry and Bannatyne Campuses consists of over 575 acres, of which 316 acres is developed land. Physical Plant has a full time baseline funded staff of 321 staff and a full time income funded staff of 63.
In 2010/11, Physical Plant was responsible for the administration and management of $45 million in operations and utilities, $3.02 million in Renovations and Equipment Capital, $1.38 million in Indirect Costs of Research projects, and approximately $100 million in Infrastructure projects, Knowledge Infrastructure Program (KIP) projects, and major construction/renovation projects.
During the upcoming planning period, the design and construction for Project Domino will be well underway, and several of the KIP projects and other new construction will add considerable new square footage. In addition, the University takes possession of the 120-acre Southwood Golf Course property in November 2011.
