Program Assistance in the Visual Arts

MAC - PROGRAM CHANGE: Program Assistance in the Visual Arts

Program Assistance in the Visual Arts assists small groups of Manitoba visual artists, collectives and not-for-profit organizations presenting and interpreting works of contemporary art to the general public, and participating in the development of Manitoba artists. This program is available to all disciplines in the visual arts, including craft, design, architecture, and the media arts.


Applicants will now apply and be assessed together in one of four new categories:
  • Rural/Northern/Remote
  • Artist-Run Centres/Collectives/Small Groups
  • Festivals
  • Other (organizations receiving operating support from either the Province of Manitoba or a major institution, such as a university)


      Applicants will be eligible for both a maximum award per project and per grant within a category.

      IMPORTANT
      Please use the NEW guidelines for April 5, 2014 deadline. View Guidelines here.

      MAC is currently updating its website and the format of all our guidelines. Because of the changes that have been made to Program Assistance in the Visual Arts and the imminence of the April application deadline we have decided to post the NEW guidelines. When making your application you should refer to the CURRENT Guidelines for Organizations which include the registration form.

Applied Arts and Atlantic Chapter Scholarships:
Any communication design project!

Canada Type Scholarship:
An award for excellent type skills and love of typography! Each submission requires two projects.

GDC Foundation, Ray Hrynkow Scholarship:
For projects that show design thinking and demonstrates any or all of these: empathy, humanity, social responsibility, and sustainability.

GDC Foundation, Marc Brisbourne Scholarship:
For students in graduate programs

Looking for mentoring?
Five GDC student member applicants will be offered a unique 3-month mentorship. Mentors are leaders in their field and passionate about sharing their expertise and knowledge.

LITHIC REDUCTION TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOP

Manitoba Archaeological Society (MAS)
Lithic Reduction Tech Workshop - MAS

Manitoba archaeologists Gord Hill and Chris Whaley will conduct the workshop to discuss and demonstrate the ancient production of stone artifacts in Manitoba. Those wanting to learn about stone tools and stone tool technology will have the opportunity to make and take home a replica tool.


All people can trace their history and culture back in time to the Stone Age. Archaeologists around the world have studied stone tools and the importance that stone tool making had to the continued existence of human beings.

ATHENS HERITAGE AND MODERNITY PROGRAM

International Institute for Restoration & Preservation Studies
IIRPS - Athens

Exploration of the coexistence between historic and modern Athens.


This program is a 13 day exploration of the history, preservation and conservation issues facing the city, including lectures and visits lead by some of the world’s foremost archaeologists, architects, historians, conservators and planners who have been dealing with the problem of surveying, planning, and preserving monuments and cultural heritage in the midst of a growing modern city.

This trip runs from June 29 - July 10, 2014 (Summer).

Bison Coaching Summer Institutes

The Bison Coaching Summer Institutes offer in-depth coach education that can be used towards the National Coaching Certification Program. Each institute provides 6 credit hours of coach theory embedded within experiential hands-on learning and seminar type discussion, and is infused with guest contributions from sport scholars and experts. Students must enroll for both courses in an institute (PHED 2400 & 2402 or KIN 3520 & 3530).

Coaching Theory & Practice – Women's Soccer

PHED 2400 A01 - Coaching Theory & Practice – Women's Soccer (3 credit hours)
May 2 (6:00 - 9:00 p.m.), May 3, 4, 10, 11 (9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.) & May 13 (6:00 – 9:00 p.m.).

PHED 2402 A01 - Advanced Coaching Theory & Practice – Women's Soccer (3 credit hours)
May 23 (6:00 – 9:00 p.m.), May 24, 25, 31, June 1 (9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.) & June 3 (6:00 – 9:00 p.m.)

Bison Coaches

Vanessa Martinez Lagunas (BS, MA, Kinesiology & Exercise Physiology) is the new Bison Women's Soccer Coach. She holds the UEFA Pro License (highest soccer coaching certification worldwide) and is a FIFA Women's Soccer Instructor and UEFA Technical Expert. She is also a former assistant coach of the German U17/U16 Women's Soccer National Teams.

Kirby Schepp (MEd, Coaching) has a Masters Degree in Coaching from the University of Victoria and is a certified NCCP Master Learning Facilitator. He is currently the Head Coach of the Men's Basketball team at the University of Manitoba.
