If a decision is made to file a patent application, information relating to the invention will be gathered and sent to a registered patent agent having expertise in the particular field of the invention for preparation of the application. The inventor may be asked to supply additional materials (drawings, figures, descriptions, etc.) and review a draft of the application to aid this process.

The patent application is then filed with the appropriate patent office for examination and a copy of the application, as filed, will be sent to the inventor. Partnerships & Innovation will then act as a liaison between the patent agent and the inventor to ensure that activities related to the patent application are undertaken with the inventor’s best interests in mind. Partnerships & Innovation will copy all pertinent information to the inventor, and involve the inventor on all decisions relating to the application. Partnerships & Innovation will front all costs associated with the applications until such time as the invention is commercialized and income/revenue is generated.
