    Animal lovers will be wild about this camp! You will learn where animals live, what they eat, how long they have been around for and how they survive. Have fun through interactive activities, games and a live animal presentation.

    (AGES 5-7)

    This camp is an introduction to the sport of cheerleading. Learn basic tumbling, pyramids and stunts combined with gymnastics and dance techniques. Showcase your skills during a cheer performance for friends and family on Friday afternoon.

    Crafty Kids

    (AGES 5-7)

    If you love all things crafty, this is the camp for you. Improve your skills in drawing and painting. Try splatter painting, sculpture and more! Participants will have some take-home projects at the end of the week. Please bring a large shirt to protect your clothes.

  • Mini U kids and a leader in a Dinosaur Discovery class.

    Dinosaur Discovery

    (AGES 5-7)

    Take a trip back to prehistoric times when the dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Learn how a T. Rex hunted through challenges tracking light and movement. See how fossils were made and then go out and dig them up yourself! You will also get to visit the Ed Leith Cretaceous Menagerie right here on campus to see some massive fossils first hand.

    Jr. NBA Youth Basketball

    (Ages 5-7)

    JNYB is designed to provide young athletes with fun, high-quality, and developmentally appropriate basketball training, programming, and coaching as part of a holistic approach to long-term athlete development. All participants will receive an NBA team reversible jersey featuring one of six NBA teams, basketball, drawstring bag, poster and certificate of participation.

  • Kids in a karate class.

    Karate

    (Ages 7 - 13)

    Traditional Japanese karate is the classical art of weaponless self-defence. "Karate" translates as "the method of empty hands." Traditional karate-do uses mental focus and discipline to develop physical skills such as speed, strength and ability. Participants will develop self-confidence, fitness, concentration and focus while developing mental preparedness and awareness. This course offers the benefits of traditional Japanese karate and sport karate, instructors are certified through the National Coaching Certification Program and the Coaching Association of Canada.

    Learn to Skate

    (Ages 5-7)

    No experience necessary! Lessons focus on the fundamentals (forward skating, stopping, starting, turning and backwards skating) and combines movement-oriented activities and games to encourage fun through learning. Participants are required to bring their own skates, CSA approved helmets and thick mitts or hockey gloves.

    With instruction provided by Mini U staff, this program is ideal for beginner hockey players, ringette players and recreational ice skaters. Lessons will focus on the fundamentals of skating: forward skating, stopping, starting, turning and backwards skating. Learn to Skate combines movement-oriented activities and games to encourage fun through learning.

    Children must be able to stand independently on the ice without assistance.

    CSA-approved helmets are required.

    Full face masks, thick gloves and pants are strongly recommended.

    Learn to Skate: Intermediate/Advanced

    (Ages 7-9)

    With instruction provided by Mini U staff, this program is ideal for hockey or ringette players and recreational ice skaters who are looking to sharpen their skating skills. Lessons will focus on the fundamentals of skating: forward skating, stopping, starting, turning, backwards skating and crossovers, edge work. Learn to Skate combines movement-oriented activities and games to encourage fun through learning.

    Children must be able to move around independently on the ice without assistance.

    CSA-approved helmets are required.

    Learn to Skate: Parent and Tot

    (Ages 3-8)

    This program is ideal for beginner skaters. Lessons will focus on the fundamentals of skating: gliding, forward skating, stopping, starting and turning. Learn to Skate combines movement-oriented activities and games to encourage fun through learning. The parent/adult accompanying the child should be a confident skater.

    CSA-approved helmets are required for both children and parents on the ice.

    Full face masks, thick gloves and pants are strongly recommended.

    Mini Gym

    (Ages 5-7)

    Keep your body moving all day long. Program focuses on gymnastics elements like cartwheels, forward and backward rolls, and balance beam activities, and is combined with fun jungle gym activities throughout the day. Get instruction in movement and motor skills like throwing, catching, hopping and more!

    Mini Herd Hockey

    (Ages 5-7)

    For the beginner or intermediate Bison who can skate independently, understands the basics of hockey and has the ability to maintain puck control in most situations. Learn about passing, shooting, stick handling, skating with control of the puck, the rules of the game, teamwork and fair play. Experience fun dryland exercises and training, paired with tips about healthy living.

    (Ages 5-7)

    Movers and Groovers

    (Ages 2-6)

    Together, parents and their children will move through a variety of gym activities and skill progressions. Each week will focus on movement and motor skills such as throwing, rollling, catching, hoppping, skipping and more. We will also help you get your groove on with fun, rhythmic activities and sing-a-longs. Our very own Kinesiology and Recreation Management students will be placing children in small groups based on their age and ability levels.

    Rhythmic Gymnastics

    (Ages 5-7)

    Experience the world of rhythmic gymnastics, whether you’re a beginner or advanced. Groups will be divided according to age and ability. Receive basic instruction in rope, hoop, ball, clubs, ribbon and scarves. Friends and family are welcome to join us for a performance of skills on Friday afternoon.

    Sport Sampler

    (Ages 7-11)

    Register for this program if you love being active, having fun and trying new things. Sport Sampler will move you through various athletic activities over the 10 weeks. Each week you will try popular activities like soccer, basketball, martial arts, archery and more! Each class will include 15 minutes of free play time for families to join in on the fun activity of the day.

    Super Soccer Skills

    (Ages 4-6)

    Come and learn to play like a pro. You will learn about the fundamentals of soccer and participate in organized games. Soccer development is the goal of this 10-week program where you will learn how to dribble, pass and shoot to score, all while learning the rules of the game.

    (Ages 5-7)

    It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No…it’s Superheroes in Training camp! Explore what it takes to be a superhero. Climb like Spiderman, run like The Flash and leap like Superman. Sharpen your leadership skills while discovering how the Avengers and Justice League work as a team and use their strengths for good. Create your very own superhero/heroine identity and make your own take-home costume!

    Tots Karate

    (Ages 4-6)

    The Tots Karate program is designed to introduce the young karateka respect for self and others, along with the fundamentals of karate: kicking, striking, blocking, and self-defense movements to develop fitness, self-discipline and confidence. Instructors are National Coaching Certification Program-trained and certified by the Coaching Association of Canada.

    Inservice Days

    (Ages 5-15)

    Mini U Programs offers a great day of activities on a variety of school inservice days. 

    Bring your children here and let them spend the day doing archery, racquetball and more! Programs run 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with drop-off from 7:45 a.m. to 9 a.m. and pick-up from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. NEW! Pick up/Drop off for Inservice Days will be in the James Daly (Max Bell) Fieldhouse. Let the summer fun continue! 

    Prices for the day are $33 per child. Registration is available online or you can also fax them to 474-7503 (attention: Drew) or dropped off in person at the Active Living Centre front desk.
