The Bison Coaching Summer Institutes offer in-depth coach education that can be used towards national certifications. Each institute provides 6 CH of coach theory embedded within experiential hands-on learning and seminar type discussion, and is infused with guest contributions from sport scholars and experts. Students are encouraged to enroll for both courses (KPER 2000 & 4000 and/or PHED 3522 & 3532).
The criteria to register in the courses is that they must be admissible to the university (graduated from high school or Mature/21+). Click here for details.

Courses will be accredited under the NCCP Program (Competition Development Training - Formerly Level III)
Same fees as all undergraduate courses (approximately $400 per 3 credit hour course). All students must apply for admission in order to take all of these undergraduate courses. If you are not a current University of Manitoba student, please visit General Studies through Extended Education.
Registration must be completed online. You must be admitted to the university first. Registration opens at the end of March through to the beginning of the course.

Vanessa Martinez Lagunas (BS, MA, Kinesiology & Exercise Physiology) is the University of Manitoba Bison Women’s Soccer Head Coach. She holds the UEFA Pro License from the German Soccer Federation (highest soccer coaching certification worldwide) and is a FIFA Women’s Soccer Instructor and UEFA Technical Expert. She is also a former assistant coach of the German U17/U16 Women’s Soccer National Teams.
Kirby Schepp (MEd, Coaching) has over 20 years experience coaching at all levels from young children and high school ages to University teams and National Teams. He has a Masters Degree in Coaching from the University of Victoria and he is a certified NCCP Master Learning Facilitator. Coach Schepp has been involved in coach education both locally and nationally for the past 15 years mentoring coaches from grass roots to high performance. He is currently the Head Coach of the Men's Basketball team at the University of Manitoba.
