The Section of Pediatric Endocrinology & Metabolism provides inpatient and outpatient care to children with endocrine disorders such as those that affect growth, puberty, pituitary function, adrenal function, thyroid function, gender identity and bone health; and children living with type 1, type 2, or other forms of diabetes. The program provides clinical services for all of Manitoba as well as Northwestern Ontario and Nunavut.
The Diabetes Education Resource for Children and Adolescents (DER-CA) was established in 1985 and has therefore been operational for over 30 years. The DER-CA provides specialized evidence based care, education, support, advocacy, and research for approximately 900 children, aged 0 – 18 years, living with diabetes in Manitoba, along with Northwestern Ontario and Nunavut. The team is an integrated, co-located, interprofessional team at the Children’s Hospital, Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg.
