Master of Physical Therapy Program Guidelines for Requests of Deferral of Admission
Applicants seeking a deferral of admission into the Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) program at the University of Manitoba must do so in writing to the Chair of Admissions of the MPT program or designate. The request for deferral of admission should only be done after receiving confirmation of acceptance and must clearly outline the reason for the request; only one-year deferrals will be considered. The MPT Admissions Committee will review each request on a case by case basis. If there are sufficient grounds to support the request, the recommendation for a deferral will be from the MPT Admissions Committee to the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, who will make the final decision.
Reasons for deferral related to an unanticipated change of circumstances would typically be acceptable; an example may include a family emergency related to a serious illness and/or death. Requests for deferrals will typically not be accepted if the reason for deferral could have been anticipated. In the case where an applicant from the alternate list is offered admission with inadequate time to relocate to Winnipeg, a one year deferral of admission can be requested by the applicant.
Applicants that are granted deferrals will be subsequently contacted by the Department of Physical Therapy in the following winter term. They will be required to confirm that they continue to wish to enter the MPT program for the following year within 14 days of receipt of the letter.
