Undergraduate Program

"Tell me and I forget.Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn."

Dr. Jenna McNaught
Director, UGME
Undergraduate learning flourishes at the interface between classroom teaching and patient care. The student must be given the opportunity to apply the knowledge gleaned from the books and lectures. Contact with real patients, coupled with opportunities to "read arounds" the cases, solidifies this knowledge into clinical wisdom. Our teaching hospitals are veritable smorgasbord of learning opportunities. Teachable moments occur frequently  in patient encounters, case-studies and in anecdotal comments. Our students are valued as an important part of the patient-care team, and while they lack clinical experience m they bring several other important qualities to the table. They offer "hot of the press" basic science knowledge, they provide a valuable "naive" perspective, they brim with idealism and curiosity.

I am Dr. Devon Ambrose, an Obstetrician and Gynecologist and Associate Director of the UGME program.  Since 2012 I have had the privilege of supervising students completing their OBGYN rotation at St. Boniface Hospital.  I am proud of the program that we provide which encourages hands-on learning and the clinical involvement of our medical students.  I look forward to being part of your educational experience and working with you in the future.
