COVID-19 UM Student Emergency Fund

Thanks to the generous contributions of our faculty members and the Faculty of Arts Dean's Office, we are pleased to announce additional emergency funding to support undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the Faculty of Arts.

The purpose of this fund is to provide some financial support in the form of a bursary to students facing financial hardship due to the current COVID-19 pandemic crisis. Please thoroughly review the pre-screening criteria listed below, as these will be used to determine your eligibility prior to assessing your application.


  • For undergraduate students, bursary values will not exceed $800 for full-time studies and $400 for part-time studies.
  • For graduate students, bursary values will not exceed $1000 for full-time studies and $500 for part-time studies.


Applications will be accepted up to June 29, 2020.


  • You must be a University of Manitoba student enrolled in a Faculty of Arts undergrad or graduate degree program.
  • You must have been a full-time or part-time student in the 2019/20 academic year.
  • You must have paid all tuition owing for both the current and from previous academic sessions.
  • You must have repaid all outstanding emergency aid from previous academic sessions.
  • You must have achieved the minimum passing grade on all courses taken in the previous academic session.

Please note: If you have already received funding through the University of Manitoba COVID-19 Emergency Fund, you cannot receive further awards. Applications will be reviewed in the order they are received, until the fund is depleted. 


At this time, the Faculty of Arts is no longer accepting undergraduate or graduate application forms for the fund due to an overwhelming response. Should this situation change, the website will be updated and the form may be re-opened.

Step 2: Once you have filled out your form, save the form to your computer
Step 3: Email the form as an attachment from your University email address as follows:

Applications will be reviewed by the Faculty of Arts Dean's Office, and only successful applicants will be informed of a decision. Award notices will be sent to your University email address. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
