Community Engagement and Events

The process of developing the Bannatyne Campus Master Plan has taken place through an extensive process of engagement and consultation with university and community stakeholders. This input is crucial in the formation of the Plan to help ensure the campus serves the needs of students, faculty, and staff; and also becomes a welcoming space for the surrounding neighbourhoods.

Through the first phase of the planning and engagement process, a Discussion Paper outlining the principles and overall vision was drafted for discussion purposes. This document formed the basis of an extensive second phase of engagement that took place from February to June 2013 with the university community and surrounding neighbourhoods. This engagement process took three main forms:

  • Community Conversations (smaller informal group discussions with stakeholder groups)
  • Events (drop-in open houses with display boards and flipcharts for participants to write down comments, and discuss issues and concerns with Campus Planning staff
  • Online engagement (the Campus Planning Office's website has an online feedback tool for people to send comments directly to Campus Planning)

Over 800 people and 30 groups including student, faculty, staff, administration, and surrounding neighbourhood stakeholders have been part of the engagement process through meetings, Community Conversations, open house events, and online feedback. The feedback informed the changes to the Discussion Paper, which was revised to become the final version of the Campus Master Plan. Open houses were held at the Bannatyne and Fort Garry campuses to present the final version of the Plan and the results of community engagement.
