This micro-certificate program provides practicing pharmacists with the chance to enhance and sharpen their clinical expertise and skills, focusing on areas directly applicable across various pharmacy practice environments. Pharmacists will gain additional proficiency to deliver up-to-date, evidence-based care to meet the growing complexity of patient needs.

Flexibility
This micro-certificate is designed to accommodate the schedules of working professionals. Each course within the program is available online, featuring both asynchronous activities (allowing participants to work at their own pace) and synchronous evening classes (facilitating discussions with peers and instructors through video conferencing). Weekly commitments entail a minimum of two hours of asynchronous work alongside a one-hour synchronous session. While designed to be completed within one year, the program offers the flexibility to extend completion over a span of two years.

You can log this continuing education opportunity as accredited learning in your Professional Development Log. Each contact hour corresponds to one Continuing Education Unit (CEU), following the guidelines established by the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM). Program descriptions
PHMD 0100 – Scientific Literature Evaluation
In this course, we will delve into the fundamentals of common study designs, research methods and the interpretation and computation of pertinent medical statistics. You’ll learn how to effectively evaluate scientific literature and apply its findings to appropriate patient populations, enhancing your ability to implement evidence-based medicine into your daily pharmacy practice. Additionally, you’ll refine your skills to summarize and communicate relevant scientific literature to both health care professionals and patients.

PHMD 0110 – Patient Assessment
This course will empower you to identify and resolve patient medication-related needs through systematic approaches in information gathering such as comprehensive patient interviews and basic physical assessments. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of your role in patient assessment and how it directly informs the selection, efficacy, tolerability and monitoring of the most suitable pharmacotherapy options for patients. You will interpret and describe physical assessment findings that are pertinent to clinical decision making and in formulating patient-centered recommendations.

PHMD 0120 – Advanced Clinical Topics
Refine your ability to identify, prioritize and address patient medication-related needs through practical, realistic patient scenarios. You’ll utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills to provide pharmaceutical care to increasingly complex patients. Assess and evaluate the best available medical literature and apply it as needed to support your recommendations in the provision of pharmaceutical care. This course will prepare you to tackle the challenges of complex patient cases with confidence.

Admission requirements
Applicants must have a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BSc Pharm) or a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) and have a license to practice pharmacy. Priority will be given to pharmacists practicing in Manitoba. All applicants must meet the English language proficiency requirements.
Students for the program will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Fees: $1,000 tuition (due upon course registration) plus a $100 non-refundable application fee.
