What inspires you?
All grandfathers and grandmothers inspire me. More specifically my Kokum, Annie and my grandmother Eva and Elders Josephine Mandamin and Florence Paynter. To me they represent life, hard work, courage and wisdom. They also represent the teaching that “water is life,” for they are life givers and we should always respect water and the earth.

What is your advice to current Indigenous university students and the 2014 Indigenous graduates for the University of Manitoba?
Everyone has a gift and the innate ability to dream. Dreams create vision. Making dreams come true usually requires hard work and commitment. During your time at university be good to yourself and others, practice balance and healthy living. For those of you who are graduating, be proud of who you are and where you come from. Change can be intimidating but it also opens up a whole new world. You are our future! I wish you all the best in your future endeavours and it is not goodbye but I will see you later.
