External Awards & Scholarships

The following is a list of organizations which offer scholarships and awards that may be of interest to current and entering University of Manitoba undergraduate and graduate students. Awards with upcoming deadlines will be noted; students are encouraged however, to search for scholarship opportunities year-round.

Because these scholarships and awards are administered by industry, government and private organizations outside of the University of Manitoba, students should read all of the information provided carefully and direct questions to the appropriate department listed on the application.

Allstream ICT Engineering Scholarship - $5000 scholarship available for women in an undergraduate engineering program. Please click on link above for application details.

Business Council of Manitoba Aboriginal Education Awards - The Business Council of Manitoba is committed to helping Aboriginal students attend university or community college. We believe that education is an important component in their personal development and greatly improves their opportunities. Annual Application Deadline: March 31.

Corporate Finance Institute Annual Scholarships - These scholarships ($500) are available for Canadian business school students enrolled in a degree program. For more information and applications please click on the link above. Deadline: December 31, annually.

Canadian Institute of Geomatics (CIG) Scholarships - The Canadian Institute of Geomatics (CIG) administers a number of Scholarship and Award programs that are oriented towards promoting the field of Geomatics and supporting college and university students enrolled in Geomatics related programs. Canadian and International Scholarship Programs (Foreign Affairs and Int'l Trade Canada) - Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD) is responsible for the Government of Canada's participation in major International Scholarship Programs. DFATD provides support to international scholars in Canada, which is often reciprocated by foreign governments which support Canadian scholars in their countries. Canadian Japanese-Mennonite Scholarship - $2000 for graduate students engaged in minority/human rights research. Please click on link above for application details.

Canadian Northern Studies Trust - Various awards from $1,500 - $10,000 offered to students enrolled in full-time post-secondary education that have an aspect of northern or circumpolar fieldwork included as part of their scholastic research that is conducted within the term of the award. Congress of Black Women of Manitoba Inc. Scholarship - offers scholarships to female Black students who are pursuing post-secondary education. Please click on link above for application details.

EDC International Business Scholarships - 30 awards valued at $4,000 offered to students who are studying a bachelor's degree in International business or business combined with environmental or sustainability studies. Please click on link above for application details.

Explore - $2000 bursary to study French/English in another province with opportunities for summer employment and transfer credits. Please click on link above for application details.

Giva Student Scholarship - for anyone attending a college or university worldwide. This scholarship grant is aimed at assisting undergraduate or graduate students further their education as well as expand their social responsibility and community service footprint in the world. Headphones Helper: has  set up this unique Online Marketing Scholarship for Undergraduate students and even Post Graduate Students with a keen interest in eCommerce and Entrepreneurship. Hometeam Homecare & Nursing Scholarship - provides $2,000 in support to outstanding students. Eligible applicants must be admitted or enrolled in a nursing school or home care certification program. We also accept students, who are currently enrolled in a high-school program, but have been accepted in a nursing or home health aide program. Please click on link above for application details.

Ideapod Scholarship - The ADC Forum and Ideapod will award US$2000 to the winning student. The 10 ideas with the most number of supports on Ideapod will be submitted to a group of ADC Forum judges. Please click on link above for application details.

James Dyson Award - invites Canada's bright industrial design and engineer students to submit their best design ideas - something that solves a problem - competing to win a prize of $54,000. Please click on link above for application details.

LA Tutors Innovation in Education Scholarship - This award provides opportunities for gaining real-working experience in a chosen field, and gives students the chance to connect with adults outside their circle who might be able to help students get into their top college or get an internship. Manitoba Government and General Employees' Union (MGEU) - Each year the MGEU awards over $20,000 in bursaries and scholarships to Manitobans pursuing post-secondary education and training programs. Any registered, dues-paying member, or spouse of a member, or child or ward of a member, is eligible. Please click on link above for application details.

Manitoba Métis Federation - The Manitoba Government is committed to increasing apprenticeship & award opportunities for Manitobans and to promote a highly skilled and dedicated workforce. Please click on link for application details.

Mary Guilbault Metis Bursary - awarded to post secondary Metis students who excel in academics; excel in the community; show financial need and have been residents of Manitoba for the last 12 months prior to this application. Annual Application Deadline: October 1st

Marymound Bursary Program - $1000- $2500 for students who have been involved in one of Marymound's school, foster home or treatment programs. Annual Application Deadline: October 1 & May 1.

The Matinée Multilingual Scholarship - Matinée Multilingual is pleased to offer a $1000 (or equivalent) merit based scholarship. Mayor Andrée P. Boucher Memorial Scholarship - FCM's Standing Committee on Increasing Women's Participation in Municipal Government is pleased to offer the Andrée P. Boucher scholarship to provide financial support to young women in Canada to pursue their education, as well as acknowledge their contribution to increasing the awareness of women's issues as they relate to local government and communities. Nature's Cure Zone is pleased to be offering a yearly $1,000 scholarship to individuals who are currently attending or planning on attending a college or graduate school in the near future. For more information please click the link above. Deadline: November 15, 2017.

North American Van Lines 2015 Logistics Scholarship Competition - Offering the opportunity for qualifying Canadian students to receive the new scholarship, intended for students in the area of business, logistics, and similar fields, with four lucky winners being selected to receive an award amount of $1,000 each. SeniorAdvisor.com: Future of Assisted Living Scholarship - Three $2,000 scholarships available to students enrolled in an associate's degree, bachelor's degree or graduate level program at an accredited 2-year college or 4-year university. Each eligible student must submit a 500-750 word essay response to the question: How can your major of study improve the lives of seniors in assisted living facilities in your town? Deadline is December 31, 2017. Scholarship award recipients will be announced January 31, 2018.

The Metro Winnipeg Council for Exceptional Children - The Metro Winnipeg Council for Exceptional Children offers two scholarships worth $500.00 each to support special needs students from Manitoba. The individuals must be entering or in the first year of a current full time education or training program in a Post Secondary Canadian institution (Community College, University, Campus Life, etc.). The Tyler Lewis Clean Energy Research Grant - was established to provide financial support and promote graduate student research in the field of clean energy at Canadian Universities. Clean energy encompasses energy sources and processes that are an alternative to fossil fuels, with minimizing, neutral or ameliorating consequences on the environment. The objective of the Tyler Lewis Clean Energy Research Grant is to develop research skills and assist in the training of qualified individuals.
