Program description 

The Department of Native Studies offers a Minor in Native Languages; most of the language courses taught in fall and winter are Ojibway and Cree at both the introductory and the intermediate level. In the summer, Summer Institutes in one of these languages are offered bringing together the learning of and about the language and stories in the language.

Professional opportunities

A Native Studies degree in general provides job opportunities in all areas of both the private and the public sector where a knowledge and appreciation of Indigenous peoples is an asset. This qualification will be greatly enhanced by competency in the Cree language for employment in the prairie provinces. Even combined with a non- Native Studies degree such competency will be invaluable in positions such as:
