Academic Assistant/Attendant
Attendants are hired as casual staff and provide students with assistance on campus, especially in the classroom. They help ensure assignments, tests and deadlines are understood by the student. In most cases, Attendants will go to class with students, meet beforehand to go over needs for upcoming class, help decipher pertinent information from lectures and discussions and often meet with students afterwards to review course notes and upcoming deadlines. Attendants will also assist with interaction between professor and the student. Applications are accepted year round.
Transcriptionists
Transcriptionists are hired as casual staff to offer in-class transcription services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Transcriptionists are responsible for typing all spoken communication in the classroom using a laptop computer or other device so that the student using the service can read the lecture as it happens in real time. Applications are accepted year round, with the bulk of work being available in the fall and winter terms.
