Perception / Reception: Manitoba Artists Who Use Text

 March 5 - 31, 1995

"In a society where many are literate, there can be little doubt that words communicate. In 1928 Rene Magritte illustrated that the word for a thing is not that thing, and that a painting or illustration of an object is not the object. But an idea can be drawn, or painted and it can be explained in writing. Of course one has to be able to read the language in which it is written, unless it is present as art. then it is art, and if one is receptive, it communicates." Alexandria Culjat

Exhibition includes works by Charlie Scott, Catherine Collins, Susan Chafe, Larry Glawson, Myron Turner, Susan Turner, Doug Melnyk and Alison Norlen.
