Balthus

November 7 - 25, 1967

This exhibition, circulated by the Museum of Modern Art, New York, featured works from their collection by Balthus (born Balthazar Klossowski).  The featured artworks were completed between 1929 and 1962. A selection, including the single painting, La Toilette de Cathy, and several illustrations, were inspired by and made for Emily Bronte's novel, Wuthering Heights. La Toilette de Cathy shows himself, depicted as Heathcliff, seated in Cathy's room as she dresses.  (James Thrall Soby, Balthus. Museum of Modern Art (New York, N.Y., 1956)
