The program aims to increase Canadian capacity for research excellence and has the following specific objectives:

  • attract and retain top-tier postdoctoral talent, nationally and internationally
  • develop their leadership potential
  • position them for success as research leaders of tomorrow

Interested candidates are required to apply in full collaboration with their proposed host institution showing the host’s commitment to their research program and its alignment with their strategic priorities. This requirement for institutional commitment and demonstrated synergy between applicant and institutional strategic priorities is unique to the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship.

The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship Program is administered by Canada’s three research granting councils: the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada
