Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)
The Building Environmental Governance Capacity in Bangladesh (BEGCB) project is funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Ottawa, which is the lead agency for development assistance. It has a mandate to support sustainable development in developing countries in order to reduce poverty and to contribute to a more secure, equitable, and prosperous world. To achieve this, the program concentrates on the following six priorities: i) democratic governance, ii) private sector development, iii) health, iv) basic education, v) equality between men and women, vi) environmental sustainability.

Bangladesh Currency Notes and BillsThe BEGCB project will be administered by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC), Ottawa, and it will be implemented throughout 2006/07 – 20012/13 fiscal years. The total budget for the project is 1.7 million dollar of which $999,885 will be provided by CIDA under the University Partnerships in Cooperation and Development (UPCD) program, and the remaining financial resources will be contributed by the project partners.

 
Project Administration
Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) is the voice of Canada’s universities. It represents 92 Canadian public and private non-for-profit universities and university-degree level colleges. Since 1911, AUCC have provided strong and effective representation for our members, in Canada and abroad. Its mandate is to facilitate the development of public policy on higher education and to encourage cooperation among universities and governments, industry, communities, and institutions in other countries.

UPCD program is administered by AUCC, and it provides financial resources to knowledge partnerships between Canadian universities and higher education organizations in developing countries. The BEGCB project is facilitating the partnership between North South University (Bangladesh), BRAC University (Bangladesh) and the University of Manitoba (Canada).
