Fellowship details

The Reconstructive Microsurgical fellowship is based at the Health Sciences Centre and Maples Surgical Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The fellow will be integrated into the residency program, which includes 10 residents, four physician assistants, and 15 plastic surgery attendings.

Training

In addition to microvascular reconstruction, trainees will have the opportunity to develop extensive skills in perforator flaps, including DIEP, SIEA, TUG, SGAP, IGAP, TAP, ALT, DCIA, lumbar artery, and "free style" perforator flaps. They will also be exposed to muscle flaps for functional reconstruction and pre-laminated flaps and ascending helical rim free flaps for total nasal reconstruction. The program performs more than 350 perforator flaps per year for breast, hand, neck, lower extremity, upper extremity, and trunk reconstruction.

During the fellowship, conference and research opportunities will be available. The fellow will be paid at a PGY level 6 by the University of Manitoba and will be funded to attend one microvascular or general reconstructive plastic surgery conference.
