Research groups

Research summary

The primary objectives of my research are both specific and wide-ranging:

  1. identify and explore functional gene polymorphisms affecting the immune response to infectious diseases
  2. investigate how the expression of these gene variants might interact with environmental and socio-cultural factors that influence the health of First Nations people
  3. engage First Nations people and groups into health research in ways that are culturally respectful to build research capacity and model the process First Nations health research within the academic community

Biography

Dr. Larcombe is a broadly trained anthropologist whose work is focused on First Nations history, health and collaborative research.

Her experience in archaeology, ancient DNA, history, traditional land use studies, medical anthropology, immunogenetics, and research with First Nation communities, brings a unique perspective to investigating the risk factors for infectious diseases.
