Research summary

Dr. Kreindler’s research centres on the question of how best to design and implement models of health-services delivery, integrating technical and social considerations within a system perspective. Her contributions include several conceptual models: the population-capacity-process model of patient flow, stipulation-stimulation spiral model of system change, and continuum of social identity management strategies. Her current focus is the potential of arts-based methods to translate complex evidence on health systems and policy.

Biography

Dr. Sara Kreindler is an assistant professor in community health sciences at the University of Manitoba and Manitoba Research Chair in Health System Innovation.

Prior to her faculty appointment, she spent eight years as an embedded researcher with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, and continues to collaborate with regional and provincial decision-makers to address system-level issues. Past projects include a Western Canadian study to understand the drivers of patient flow performance; a provincial study on the challenges of primary care renewal; and knowledge syntheses on social identity dynamics in healthcare, policy strategies to reduce wait times, and other topics.

Outside the academic context, Dr. Kreindler is also known as a songwriter and playwright. She has recently merged her academic and artistic interests by turning her research findings into a satirical musical (Larry Saves the Canadian Healthcare System). A digital production is now underway, to be evaluated as a knowledge translation tool for students and the public.
