I am interested in the coping and adjustment effort of cancer patients, and matters of patient-health provider communication.

Dr. Thomas Hack is Director of the Psychosocial Oncology and Cancer Nursing Research Group of the College of Nursing.  He is a Senior Scientist at the Research Institute in Oncology and Hematology at CancerCare Manitoba, and Visiting Professor at the University of Central Lancashire, Preston, UK. Dr. Hack conducted the largest trials worldwide examining the utility and effectiveness of providing cancer patients with audio-recordings of primary treatment consultations, and applied his knowledge translation (KT) expertise to assist CancerCare Manitoba (CCMB) in launching a consultation recording service as standard clinical practice.  A member of KT Canada, Dr. Hack collaborates on KT projects at CCMB and with colleagues in the UK and Australia. He teaches graduate level courses in quantitative research methods, and supervises students with an interest in oncology. Dr. Hack was the inaugural Dorothy J. Lamont Scientist with the Canadian Cancer Society Research Institute in partnership with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.  He is a recipient of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee medal.
