My program of research aims to make a positive change and to improve care within long-term care by focusing on the delivery of high quality, respectful and compassionate care for those living and dying in this setting.


Dr. Thompson is passionate about improving the care of those living and dying in long-term care. She serves on numerous committees, including the University of Manitoba Internal Research Grants Committee, and the College of Nursing Graduate Curriculum Governance and Quality Assurance Committee. Currently, she teaches a graduate level course in qualitative research methods, and supervises students with interests in care of the older adult, palliative and end-of-life care, and long-term care. Dr. Thompson is a CIHR New Investigator (2013-2018), is the recipient of the Canadian Association for Nursing Research - Outstanding New Investigator Award in 2012 and was awarded the Excellence in Professional Nursing Award (Nursing Research) from the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba in 2011.
