New Venture Adventure Camp in Entrepreneurship in partnership with WASAC

Date: July 20 - 24, 2015 & August 24 - 28, 2015

New Venture Adventure Camp is a one-week day camp for 20 pre-selected female Aboriginal students taking part in WASAC (Winnipeg Aboriginal Sport Achievement Centre), an organization that develops leadership and mentorship skills for Aboriginal youth through sport and recreational programs.

Participants will learn how to develop, write and present a business plan. They will also learn important aspects of teamwork and basic sales techniques. Team Building is a fundamental part of the New Venture camp. The emphasis placed on teamwork makes each individual think about how their contribution plays a role in the collective decision making process. The camp is run by the Stu Clark Centre for Entrepreneurship at the University of Manitoba.

By the end of the week, participants will complete their own business plan and present it to a panel of judges. Parents are invited to attend the presentations, as well as the graduation ceremony.

The highlight of the week is the Vendors of New Venture Adventure sales competitions. New Venture Adventure is a business simulation camp. During the first two days, the students will learn about various business topics such as marketing and break-even analysis. In groups, students will come up with a product they would like to sell. Wednesday is a field trip to Gale's Wholesale where they will purchase the supplies to make their product. On Thursday, students will sell their product at the Forks Market and get to keep all of their profits!
