Debrah Wirtzfeld MD., M.Sc., FRCSC., FACS., CCPE
Dr. Wirtzfeld's clinical interests include the multi-disciplinary treatment of locally advanced and recurrent rectal carcinoma, prophylactic gastrectomy for hereditary diffuse gastric carcinoma, standardized approaches for patients suspected of hereditary colorectal cancer and the treatment of malignant melanoma.

She holds a masters in clinical epidemiology focused on the evaluation of the use of adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with stage II colorectal carcinoma.  The emphasis of her thesis was on mechanisms for the successful development and implementation of clinical practice guidelines.  She also holds a graduate certificate in executive coaching from Royal Roads University and is a Canadian Certified Physician Executive. 

Dr. Wirtzfeld is currently the Section Head of General Surgery for the WRHA and the University of Manitoba. She is the Director of Leadership Development for the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba.

Her current research is focused on the successful development and implementation of undergraduate medical curricula in the area of leadership and the development of postgraduate professionalism curricula at the University of Manitoba.
