The Outpatient Mental Health Service provides biopsychosocial consultation, assessment and treatment to children, adolescents, families and systems by a multi-disciplinary team. This service sees patients with a diagnostic range that is inclusive, excluding patients with diagnosed intellectual disability, Pervasive Developmental Disorder and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. This service provides care to those less than 18 years old. Patients and families receive a comprehensive assessment to determine a biopsychosocial treatment plan that can include medication management, individual and family therapy, group psychotherapy, and therapeutic consultation and intervention. This service is composed of psychiatrists, nurse therapists, occupational therapists, family therapist, as well as has psychology consultation available to it. Treatment can be multimodal, intensity can vary, as well as duration of treatment can be titrated to the patient's needs.
In addition to clinical service, education on the service is emphasized. This service is available as a rotation for both Core and Elective Child and Adolescent Psychiatry residents. As well, trainees from other disciplines may participate in the service for educational purposes.
