Service Overview

CAAAS is an urgent clinical consultation service for the WRHA Child and Adolescent Mental Health Program.  Consultation requests from Children's Hospital Emergency Department, Children's Clinic and Centralized Intake are answered by a child and adolescent psychiatrist, usually within two weeks.  Psychiatry residents often participate in this service, with the opportunity to assess children, adolescents and their families and the systems in which they are involved.  A wide range of psychiatric diagnoses including mood and anxiety disorders, suicidality, substance abuse, behavior disorders, psychotic disorders and family relational issues are the most frequent problems encountered.  Assessment, short term psychiatric and referral to other clinical services are offered.
