Respiratory Physiology and Disease
Our major research goals are to understand the mechanisms (biophysical and biochemical) of muscle contraction in pathophysiological states such as asthma, essential hypertension and anaphylactic shock.
The current Head of Division is Dr. Andrew Halayko, and he is also the Director of the Biology of Breathing Theme in the Manitoba Institute of Child Health where the majority of the laboratories engaged in the research reside.
The Division includes six Professors and Adjunct Professors that are eligible to train students in the Department of Physiology.
The Division is affiliated with the Biology of Breathing Research Theme in the Manitoba Institute of Child Health, which offers competitive trainee support.
