Cardiovascular Science and Disease

Our major research goals are to understand the mechanisms (biophysical and biochemical) of the pathophysiology of different cardiovascular diseases as well as therapies. This includes, but not only, in trying to reduce the injury from heart attacks or heart-damaging drugs, improving heart remodelling after injury, or increasing available hearts for transplantation.

The current Head of Division is Dr. Lorrie Kirshenbaum;  Dr. Kirshenbaum  is also the Director of the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences located at the St. Boniface Hospital Research Centre where the majority of the laboratories engaged in the research reside.

The Division includes 15 Professors and Adjunct Professors that are eligible to train students in the Department of Physiology & Pathophysiology..

The Division is well known for its support for both graduate student and summer student opportunities, with many of its former graduates now working in academia, areas of health delivery and service.
